PERSONALIZED PRIVATE TUTORING
Patient, personalized tutoring that builds real understanding.
MEET YOUR TUTOR
A calm place to ask questions, make mistakes, and understand the subject properly.
Hello, I’m Emma. I’m a qualified teacher with a degree in Education and more than eight years of classroom and one-to-one teaching experience. I work mainly with secondary-school students in Maths, English, and general study skills.
I became a tutor because I enjoy the moment when something that once felt confusing starts to make sense.
My teaching style is patient, practical, and adaptable. I don’t expect every student to understand something after hearing it explained once. Sometimes we need a different example, a visual explanation, a simpler starting point, or just a little more time.
During our lessons, you can expect plenty of opportunities to ask questions. We’ll work through ideas together before moving towards independent practice, so I can see not only whether you reached the right answer, but whether the reasoning behind it makes sense.
The aim isn’t to rush through as much material as possible. It’s to build understanding that students can use confidently when they’re working on their own.

INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
WHO THE LESSONS ARE FOR
Students come to tutoring for all kinds of reasons.
Finding a subject difficult doesn’t mean a student isn’t capable. Sometimes a topic moved too quickly in class. Sometimes an earlier concept needs revisiting. And sometimes a student simply needs a quieter environment where there is enough time to ask questions.
Catching Up
When earlier topics haven’t quite clicked, we can go back and rebuild the foundations carefully—without embarrassment or unnecessary pressure.
Preparing for Exams
We can work through exam-style questions, identify recurring difficulties, practise useful techniques, and develop a more organised approach to revision.
Building Better Study Habits
For students who understand the material but struggle with independent study, lessons can include practical approaches to planning, revision, note-taking, and practice.
A SIMPLE PROCESS
HOW TUTORING WORKS
A clear plan, without a rigid programme.
Every student starts from a different place, so lessons shouldn’t all look the same.
Rather than following a fixed tutoring programme, I adjust the content, pace, explanations, and practice according to what we discover along the way.
01 — Short Consultation
We begin with a brief conversation about the student, the subject, current challenges, upcoming goals, and what kind of support would be most useful.
02 — Learning Assessment
Early lessons help me understand the student’s current knowledge and identify any areas that may need additional attention. This isn’t about giving the student another stressful test. It’s simply a practical way to find the right starting point.
03 — Personalized Lesson Plan
From there, I create a lesson plan around the student’s priorities. The plan provides direction, but it isn’t fixed. If we discover that an earlier skill needs attention—or that the student is ready to move ahead—the plan changes accordingly.
04 — Regular Lessons
Lessons combine clear explanations, worked examples, supported practice, questions, and independent work. Students are encouraged to explain their thinking so we can identify what they genuinely understand rather than relying on memorised steps.
05 — Progress Updates
Lessons combine clear explanations, worked examples, supported practice, questions, and independent work. Students are encouraged to explain their thinking so we can identify what they genuinely understand rather than relying on memorised steps.

WHAT LESSONS ARE ACTUALLY LIKE
A TYPICAL LESSON
A realistic look at a tutoring session.
No two lessons are exactly alike, but a typical 60-minute session might look something like this.
5–10 Minutes — Review
We begin by revisiting the previous lesson, looking at any practice completed between sessions, or discussing something that came up at school.
10–15 Minutes — Guided Explanation
Next, we focus on the main idea for the lesson.
I’ll break the topic into manageable steps and use examples, questions, or visual explanations where they help.
15–20 Minutes — Supported Practice
We work through questions together.
At first, I may provide prompts or demonstrate part of the process. As the student becomes more comfortable, I gradually step back.
10–15 Minutes — Independent Practice
The student tries similar problems with less support.
This is an important part of the lesson because it shows whether the idea can be applied independently—not just followed while someone else is explaining it.
5 Minutes — Recap
We finish by summarising the main idea, clearing up any final questions, and agreeing on what would be useful to practise before the next lesson.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST LESSON
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do lessons take place?
Lessons are available online and in person. In-person tutoring is available within the local area, with the exact location and arrangements confirmed before the first lesson.
What do I need for an online lesson?
A reliable internet connection, a laptop or tablet, and somewhere reasonably quiet to work are usually enough. Any worksheets or digital resources needed for the lesson will be provided or discussed beforehand.
What is the cancellation policy?
Lessons can be rearranged without charge when at least 24 hours’ notice is provided. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at the normal lesson rate, except in genuine emergencies.
How does payment work?
Payment can be made by bank transfer after each lesson or through a monthly invoice, depending on the arrangement agreed at the beginning. There are no hidden lesson fees.
Are learning materials included?
Yes. Practice questions, worksheets, and lesson notes are included where appropriate. If a particular textbook, workbook, or paid resource would be useful, this will be discussed before anyone is asked to purchase it.
How involved are parents or guardians?
This depends on the student’s age and circumstances. For younger students, I can provide brief updates about what we are covering, areas of progress, and anything that would be useful to practise. Older students may prefer more independence, and we can agree on the right level of communication at the beginning.
A SMALL TIP FOR THIS WEEK
FROM THE TUTOR’S DESK
Try this the next time you revise.
Handwritten Study Note:
Close your notes before you start.
Write down everything you can remember about the topic first. Then reopen your notes and compare.
The gaps you discover are usually much more useful than simply reading the same page again.
Small Text:
Practical study ideas from the tutor’s desk—simple enough to try between lessons.
